A Romance of the South Seas. For Where Your Treasure is. The Pearls of Thanksgiving Island. GARDEN CITY 1945 NEW YORK. LINECUT END SHEETS B THE AUTHOR.

This is a stated "FIRST EDITION". Hardbound in very good condition with dust jacket, 246 pages includes CONTENTS and a PEOPLE IN THE BOOK Listing, measures approximately 5 ½" x 7 ¾". The jacket presents a most attractive south sea design on the cover signed by the artist Verna Bock. Wear is moderate with a few short closed edge tears at the edges and minor chipping to the ends of the spine and the flap corners have been clipped.

It has been placed in an Archival quality clear Mylar jacket cover to better protect it in the future. The boards are covered in green cloth with guild title and graphic on the spine and small graphic on the front cover. The surfaces are clean and straight with slight wear to the points and creasing to the ends of the spine but no frank tears or fraying.

The interior reveals "LINECUT END SHEETS BY THE AUTHOR" that are green and cream maps of "Christian's Secret Island" and "Thanksgiving Island", both back and front. A filled in Ex Libris has been pasted to the center of the fly page which does obscure a minor bit of the design. The contents are otherwise modestly age toned but free of foxing and there are no further ownership indications, no marks, creases or tears.

Robert Dean Frisbie, became a noteworthy author and individual following his move from California to the Cook Islands in 1924. Being an appreciator of tropical islands and solitude, Mr.

Frisbie settled on the Island of Puka Puka producing his first literary work immortalizing that island in "The Book of Puka-puka", c. Amaru is a tale that takes place on a couple islands of Mr. Frisbie's creation involving a cache of pearls, mystery and romance. Both a "Table of Contents" and a listing of "People in the Book" are provided.

Among the characters is a "hero" a "heroine", a "puppet king", a "one-legged man" and a villain. Despite embracing South Sea isolation, the Author's publications became very well known in the 1930s through today.

Currently it is unusual for one to become available, particularly in such lovely condition with its dust jacket. This copy of Amaru would be a prized addition to any Pacific Island collection.
