The coin is the 16th release in the popular Meteorite Impact series. The 2020 dated coin includes a genuine 2.5 mm segment of the Vinales Meteorite. The coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. 999 fine silver by the Mayer Mint. The coin features a gorgeous ultra high relief proof finish.
Mintage is limited to 2,500. Obverse: The likeness of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse, encircled by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II, " "5 DOLLARS, " "COOK ISLANDS" and 2020.
This effigy, known as the fourth definitive coinage portrait, was crafted by acclaimed British sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. Reverse: The reverse design is centered on the meteorite fragment, with mounds of sculpted earth around its final resting place. The three-dimensional representation demonstrates the dramatic meteorite impact, as it blazes a trail through the coin's edge, rim and surface.
