2 DOLLARS SILVER COIN SET - AK-47 KALASHNIKOV ASSAULT RIFLE - COOK ISLANDS 2007. AK-47 KALASHNIKOV COMES IN A CLEVER DISPLAY BOX MODELED AFTER AN AK-47 ROUND MAGAZINE. Over the last 60 years Mikail Kalashnikovs revolutionary gas-fired AK-47 automatic assault rifle has seen service around the world, and is still popular today. This set of two 2007 Silver coins commemorates the weapons 60th anniversary and features a portrait of Mr. Kalashnikov and his famous rifle. The AK-47 is a gas operated rifle designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov. One of the first true assault rifles, the AK-47 was conceived during Kalashnikovs years in the Russian army when he was wounded during WWII while serving as a tank commander. Kalashnikovs aim was to create a durable and easily produced firearm to protect the borders of his motherland. The reverse features a full colour image of Mikhail Kalashnikov, the designer of the AK-47 surrounded by an engraved border. The second coin features an engraved image of the rifle itself, a Russian soldier armed with an AK-47 and the famous red star, scythe and hammer of the Russian Federation. The reverse shows Queen Elisabeth II effigy. The AK-47 is a gas operated assault rifle that was used in many Eastern bloc nations during the Cold War. Compared with most auto-loading rifles used in World War II, the AK-47 is generally more compact, shorter range, less powerful, and capable of selective fire. It was one of the first true assault rifles and remains the most widely used and known.

More AK rifles have been produced than any other assault rifles, production continues to this day. Set of two silver coins. Weight (grams): 31.1 Diameter mm.

Of the 20,000 sets made, 4,000 were made (the rest of the UNC). Includes original case and certificate. The case is made in the form of a Kalashnikov assault rifle magazine. In addition to the set, there are 3 rounds included in the box. The item "RARE 2007 Kalashnikov AK-47 60th Anniversary 2 x 1 Oz Silver Coins Cook Islands" is in sale since Tuesday, August 6, 2019.
