The first issue of this unique and beautiful WINDOWS OF HEAVEN series is THE COLOGNE CATHEDRAL. Appropriately selected in 2010 as the first-in-series under authorization of The Government of the Cook Islands. Construction of the Cologne Cathedral began in year 1248, completed in 1880. The coin displays the intricately designed stained glass windows.
Beautiful art and works of craftsmanship. Struck into the reverse of the coin is an image showing the outside of this magnificent Gothic Cathedral, along with a plan of the outlay of the cathedral shown below. To the left is shown a section taken from within the cathedral showing a beautifully designed stain-glass window.
Name, series, year of issue are inscribed on this side. The stained-glass is visible from the obverse in-reverse. This side depicts the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II (Ian Rank-Broadley) in brilliant proof surrounding, country of issue and the face value. This issue was the start of a unique new coin series featuring real windows of famous Cathedral churches of the world. A Real Window Presented in Silver Coin. This is the first coin of the series. What appears at the 11oclock position obverse is a smudge on the capsule exterior that was not noticed when photographed and since removed with a simple wipe. Custom regulations will be followed.
