Mintage-Only 1,901 pieces made worldwide. 120th Anniversary of the Dual Track Steel Roller Coaster At Brooklyn New York's Coney Island Park.
It Was The F irst Looping Coaster and Was Considered Revolutionary for Its Time. No virtual reality can imitate the thrill of a real roller coaster, especially a looping roller coaster. This adventure and test of courage is perfectly captured on this coin called "Loop the Loop, " named after a two-track steel roller coaster that operated from 1901 to 1910 at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York.
The coaster was one of the first looping roller coasters in North America. It is the forerunner of all modern looping roller coasters, which all have an elliptical design. At the time, it was considered revolutionary because it reduced whiplash. Despite the safer design, people were still afraid of the Loop the Loop because it was still quite primitive. Back then, there were no safety mechanisms under the tracks to prevent the cars from flying off the tracks. The passenger cars on Loop the Loop had real tires and were only held on the rails by a small railing.
At least passengers got a nice ticket to remember the ride! Ultra-high relief on both sides enables a very realistic representation of the loop. The front and back show the same scenery, just from a different perspective.
