Attractive pure one-ounce silver antique finish to this popular water nymph from Greek and Roman mythology. This coin appears a replica from ancient issues that placed her image in a field surrounded by dolphins.
Perhaps a tale of unrequited love, she chose to remain chaste in service to Artimus, and was forced into hiding. Her watery journey beneath the earth took her to see Persephone (Proserpina) wed to the lord of the underworld Hades (Pluto), which she would later report to Demeter (Ceres), concerned for her missing daughter. Legend has it she remains in hiding as the Fountain of Arethusa in Syracuse.
