Ultra High Relief, antique finish quality. This antiqued silver coin issued by Coin Invest Trust (CIT) for the Cook Islands commemorates the December 20, 2008 meteorite impact near Ouarzazate, Morocco. This distinctive, 3D crater shaped coin, struck from 1/2 Troy oz. 999 fine silver, is overstruck to create a random buckled and cracked patterned surface.

This breakthrough point is unique to each coin of the 2,500 mintage. The reverse of this high relief, rimless coin emulates the topography of a meteorite impact crater, including an impact hole struck completely through the coin, with random cracks and lines of stress, and meteorite fragment embedded in the surface. Inscriptions are subtly positioned near the coin's edge, indicating the meteorite's name, impact coordinates, and 2016. Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is located to the left of the impact puncture on the obverse, accompanied by "ELIZABETH II, " "COOK ISLANDS, " and 2 DOLLARS.
